For this year, aside from being more active on my blog, I’ve also made a resolution to dedicate more time to embroidery. Which at this moment mainly means to finalize all my collections in the making. And I have quite a few of them!
So I started by adding the long-prepared embroidery set “Pansies 3” to the shop. As the name suggests, it’s a follow up of set 1 and set 2. The patterns are designed in the same style, so all three sets can be combined and used to create large-scale embroidery projects.
However, this collection has something extra! If you’re like me and enjoy a little bit more creative use of embroidery machine other than just slapping a design on the front of a t-shirt, then this set allows you to get a bit more playful. This collection as a bonus includes two separate pansy flowers that you can either embroider onto felt or another non-fraying material and then attach individually or add them to the embroidered design, expanding its area while giving it a 3D effect, as the flowers are only tacked down at the center, leaving the edges free.
Later on I will add a specific project to demonstrate this use.
The collection contains ten embroidery designs, the above mentioned stand alone flowers and as another bonus there’s an embroidery design altered to the form of an applique. Appliques are still popular, and besides decorating clothing, they’re also great for covering various stubborn stains or small holes in garments.
An applique looks great on jeans for example, and as it finally seems, different forms of holes on jeans are not trendy anymore, so a nice patch comes handy. If the pants are otherwise still in good condition, an applique is a great way to cover up unwanted holes or rips.
Most of the designs again involve quite a few color changes, but that’s because they’re very detailed, and I believe it’s worth spending time on them although nobody likes changing threads.
As always with my designs, the set comes with a detailed color chart because the colors on the screen can appear differently on various machines, and it would be a shame to ruin the embroidery with a wrongly chosen color.
If you are interested in a detailed general photo tutorial for embroidering appliques, as well as the instructions for embroidering these separate pansy flowers, e-mail me and I’ll send it to you.
And as usual, there’s also a freebie available for download so that you can test the quality of the embroidery. You can click on the picture below to download it.
When testing the designs on various machines, I have used this design to embellish a pair of panties I was making (hopefully no one feels offended by a photo of my underwear). BTW, if you are a sewist, I can highly recommend trying to sew underwear, it’s a great way to use up some scraps of jersey. The name of this pattern is Acacia and you can get it for free here.
And that’s all from me for today. Hope you are having a great time. We seem to be slowly entering the spring season here and I’m very much looking forward to it!
Happy Embroidering!
