New embroidery designs!

Do you love flowers? I certainly do. And I also love embroidery designs that look beautiful without being unnecessarily complicated to prepare or stitch out.

Since I had already successfully tested this concept with two previous collections designed for smaller hoops, it was only a matter of time before I created a set for larger embroidery hoops as well.

What’s included in the collection

This collection includes 11 floral appliqué designs. You’ll find both simple single-flower compositions and more elaborate arrangements with multiple flowers and leaves. Every design is sized to fit a 5″ × 7″ (130 × 180 mm) embroidery hoop, so if your machine supports this hoop size, these designs are ready to stitch.

Appliqué is one of my favorite embroidery techniques because it combines two things I love: embroidery and fabric. The result is designs with beautiful depth and texture that stand out from traditional embroidery.

Another advantage is that appliqué stitches much faster than fully filled embroidery. Since much of the design is created with fabric rather than dense stitches, you’ll save both embroidery time and thread.

One more benefit is versatility. You can use the same design over and over again, yet create completely different-looking projects simply by changing the fabrics and thread colors. Bright, colorful prints create one effect, while soft neutral fabrics—like the beige tones shown in the sample from my second collection—give the design a completely different feel. (Yes, I’m already working on that collection!)

What can you make with these designs?

Honestly… just about anything! Here are a few ideas based on projects I’ve made myself or seen from my wonderful testers:

  • Cosmetic bags and zippered pouches – appliqué looks especially beautiful on canvas or denim and is wonderfully durable.
  • Clothing – pastel flowers look lovely on girls’ and women’s dresses, blouses, T-shirts, and sweatshirts. Appliqué is also a perfect way to cover a stain or a small hole and give a favorite garment a second life.
  • Pillows and home décor – a large floral design in the center of a cushion is all the decoration you need.
  • Quilt blocks – the collection makes an excellent starting point for a mini quilt or a wall hanging.
  • Simple tote bags – a quick handmade gift that looks as though it took days to make.

How the designs are created

If you’ve been following my work for a while, you already know that I’m definitely not the fastest designer when it comes to creating embroidery patterns. Quite the opposite—the journey from the first idea to a finished collection in my shop takes quite a while.

I don’t rely on automatic digitizing. Every design is digitized entirely by hand.

Then I stitch every single design—and not just once. The first test tells me whether the stitching sequence makes sense, whether the appliqué placement works correctly, and whether there are any unnecessary jumps between sections that would require trimming threads.

After that, I test the designs on several different embroidery machines, both home and semi-professional models. It takes a lot of time, but it’s the only way I can be confident that the files you receive will stitch beautifully on your machine as well.
