Freebie Friday #33

Free embroidery design for download

Warning: this week’s freebie might not be for all of my foreign customers. But we Czechs are avid mushroom pickers so it was created mainly for them as the mushroom season is at it’s peak currently. Hopefully some of my European followers will find a use of this freebie too.

This mushroom appliqué is perfect for adding a little something extra to autumn clothing, for both children and adults. Personally, I love using appliqués to rescue damaged clothes. And for example a jacket can easily get torn while you’re out in the woods, so it would be a shame to stop wearing it just because of a small tear. Covering it with an appliqué is a great way to give it a second life.

You can also use these little mushrooms to make a simple drawstring bag like this one I quickly put together. One of the great things about appliqués is that they have relatively few stitches, so they don’t take long to embroider. That makes the bag a perfect little last-minute gift.

And did you know that Christmas is just 77 days away? Some of your friends or family members might enjoy a bit of dried mushrooms for the tasty soup or creamy sauce.

For the bag, you’ll need some basic fabric, such as cotton or linen, plus three shades of beige/brown fabrics for the mushrooms.

A little note: the bag is meant to serve as an original wrapping, the mushrooms are in a glass jar inside it. That way, there’s no risk of unwelcome little insects getting into the mushrooms during storing.

Another idea is to embroider the appliqué onto a piece of jute or coarse linen, cut it into a square, fray the edges, and glue it onto a jar as a decorative label. Or you could use it for some stylish autumn decorations for your country cottage, such as cushions, oven mitts, placemats, and more. The possibilities are endless!

This little set of designs will be available as a free download for limited time only. You can download it by clicking on the image below. Set includes both the applique and texts in Czech and English.

As usually, I’d be happy to see what you have made with this design so feel free to share your creations with me and other embroiderers.

Wishing you happy stitching and have a great weekend.
